MILEP JOTTINGS

There is a saying ‘The family that prays together stays together’. This is as true of our church family as any other. So in its 7th year of being, MILEP has renewed its commitment to being a praying partnership. This commitment has had its outworking in two recent events. Firstly the Quiet Day at the shrine of Pennant Melangell and also the Prayer Walk around the community of Mynydd Isa.

Quiet Day

The Quiet Day was enjoyed by 17 members of the partnership and was led by Rev Linda Mary, the warden of the shrine. Everyone drew strength from its peace and tranquillity whilst enjoying just being in one anothers company. The highlight was the service of Holy Communion followed by prayers for healing and the laying on of hands.

Prayer Walk

Two hours were set aside on a Sunday afternoon to walk the perimeter of Mynydd Isa and to pray for the community. This was a new venture for many of us so we asked the Church in Wales evangelist Rocky Bateman to guide us. In reality we were only able to cover half the community in the time…..so we learnt something! We arrived back at church for tea and cakes and an opportunity to share our experience and to think how best we could approach such a walk in the future.

MILEP HARVEST – Tuesday October 5th 2010

The October MILEP service took the form of our annual Harvest celebration. The lounge at the Griffin was full as we celebrated with traditional hymns, a Bible reading and prayers. Katya Jewel gave us an interesting and informative talk about her work with Cafod. With a powerpoint display she was able to explain how Cafod started originally, and how it operates worldwide. We heard how Cafod is closely linked to Christian Aid, as well as Islamic Relief and other aid agencies which respond to need anywhere in the World, whether it be an area of ongoing concern or a recent disaster which needs to be addressed urgently. She also referred to her visit to Bolivia and highlighted how Cafod are working to support people living in poverty. This was illustrated with a display of items brought back when she returned. The evening concluded with an excellent Harvest Supper, prepared and served by Nikos, the landlord at the Griffin. Fellowship continued through the evening and everyone left feeling uplifted by the service, Katya's talk, and companionship as we ate afterwards. Two pictures from the event are below.
